ARTEMiS Adventures with Space Patches | Dr. Molly Nipper (45 minutes)
Participants will engage in Art, Research, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics in Space (ARTEMiS) lessons to inspire students through hands-on, inquiry, project-based learning. Participants will explore the artistry and meaning of patch designs and research a real patch to develop guiding questions to ignite curiosity about space related STEAM topics.
Dr. Molly is a STEAM Gifted and Talented Teacher in Spring Branch ISD, as well as a graduate of Houston Christian University's EdD in Executive Educational Leadership program.

Healing the Spirit: Practical Strategies for Supporting Students After Trauma | Drs. Michael Cook, Leigh Kent, Angela Waggoner, and Traci Whittenberg (45 minutes)
More and more, we understand that traumatic experiences are a part of many people's lives, and that includes students who are trying to learn while navigating extreme difficulties. They often need a person to hear what has happened to them and to respond with empathy, and this presentation will both equip you for that process and give you practical strategies for making referrals and providing other supports. Moreover, you'll understand how trauma impacts the brain and what can be done to heal a person's spirit. In addition, you'll learn how and why mental health concerns have grown in frequency and severity in our society over time and get a glimpse into concerning future trends that portend a greater incidence of mental health disorders. This presentation will prepare participants to effectively respond to the current situation and future challenges.

Creativity, communication, critical thinking, and collaboration are must have skills for every student! In this session, you’ll learn from an instructional designer the tried and true technology strategies to incorporate the 4C's in your classroom.
Danica Botts is an Instructional Designer for the Region 4 Education Service Center, as well as a graduate of Houston Christian University's M.Ed. Curriculum and Instruction with a Specialization in Instructional Technology (now Master of Science in Learning, Technology, and Design) program.

The Literacy Achievement Gap Between Male and Female Students and Teacher Perceptions on How to Close This Gap | Taisha Garner (15 minutes)
This presentation will focus on examining how the literacy achievement gap is viewed by teachers and how they are working in their classrooms to cultivate male interest in reading, as well as aspiring to close literacy gaps in standardized testing.
Taisha Garner is a doctoral student in the EdD in Executive Educational Leadership program at Houston Christian University.
Educating Students in an Alternative Instructional Setting: An Assessment of Mental Health Consequences | Nay Armstrong Chevalier (15 minutes)
This study aims to assess the mental health consequences of teaching trauma-exposed students in alternative instructional settings. The goal of this study is to increase awareness of the experiences of teachers who teach students who have been exposed to trauma in alternative settings such as the county jail, psychiatric ward, domestic and sexual violence shelter, local hospitals, drug rehabilitation centers, and homebound. The researcher expects that the data collected through this study will facilitate a deeper appreciation regarding the experiences of this population of teachers and increase the momentum of the work of school districts to incorporate tailored mental health interventions and self-care professional developments to meet the growing mental health needs of the teachers who teach in such environments, promoting positive mental health outcomes.

The Under-Identified Dyslexic Scholar: Examining What Educators on At-Risk Campuses Know about Dyslexia in Efforts to Improve Identification Efforts | Chelsea St. Julien (15 minutes)
This presentation will provide an overview of a dissertation study regarding under-identified dyslexic scholars, including the importance of teacher preparedness and understanding how to best support scholars with dyslexia.
